Commercial Range Hood - Not Your Normal Kitchen Range Hood

A correctly installed commercial range hood or downdraft ventilator will ensure that all odors, smoke and heat are removed from the kitchen whilst cooking is taking place. It is only the larger commercial style hoods that are able to effectively remove significant amounts of grease at all when any type of cooking is taking place.

In order for any commercial range hood to carry out its job properly it is important that it covers the entire area that the cooker top takes up plus an additional 3 inches on all sides. The perfect position of any hood should be between 24 and 30 inches above the top of the cooker in order that it can effectively suck up all the steam, smoke and odors being produced whilst a person is cooking. In most cases these hoods stand at around 6 inches tall and the interior is funnel shaped so that is able to feed the fumes etc., up to the filter and then onto the blower. Today most commercial hoods will have the blower located in a position that is close to where the ductwork will exit the property so this invariably makes them much quieter than more conventional models.

Although most standard range hoods will be attached to the underside of a cabinet above the stove or range. With the commercial versions you will find that these are stand alone models and will therefore be encased in a material of your choice but most commonly they come in stainless steel. Also as an added benefit the lighting on these types of hoods is generally much better and a lot brighter as they normally use a much higher wattage bulb within them. Plus often these types of hoods with have more lights and in some cases they can be individually turned on and off to ensure that you have the right kind of lighting and plenty of it where it matters the most.

Also any kind of hood whether it be conventional or commercial is only really effective if the ducting it is connected to has been correctly installed. If you have too much ductwork or the interior is ribbed instead of being smooth or if there are too many turns within the framework of the ducting then you will find that the actually drawing power of the hood can be quite badly compromised.

Therefore it is quite essential that you place your commercial range hood in a location which is close to an exterior wall and will then allow for the least amount of ducting to be used.
