What Are The Main Parts Of Kitchen Hoods?

Kitchen hoods are often more commonly referred to as range hoods in the USA and extractor hoods in the UK. They can also be called stove hoods, exhaust hoods, extraction hoods, extractor fans or cooker hoods.

But no matter what they are called they all work in the same way in that they contain a fan. These hoods are then placed above the stove or range in a person's kitchen and are used to remove grease, along with smoke, odors, heat, steam and combustion products from the air whilst a person is cooking. They combine a filtration system with a system that helps to evacuate the air from the kitchen to ensure that the kitchen remains clean and smells pleasant.

The main components of any kitchen hood are as follows:-

1. Skirt - This contains the filters along with the fan which then forces the air out of the kitchen.

2. Filters - These are used to extract and hold the grease that is contaminating the area around the stove area and held in place until such time as the filter is removed and cleaned.

3. Fan - This is what actually helps to remove the smells, odors and other unsavory contaminants which are not caught up in the filters.

4. Ductwork - This is the pipe system which then takes the stale air and odors and releases them outside of the kitchen.

As well as the kitchen hood helping to remove bad odors, smoke and other combustion products from the stove area they also help to remove any excess moisture. Most kitchen hoods today will come with a light within them in order to provide additional illumination to the area of the stove top in order to help the cook to see better whilst they are making a meal.

Most of the latest designs of kitchen hoods and other ventilation products for the kitchen are very sleek and stylish and come in a variety of finishes as well as shapes and sizes. But each one will blend perfectly within the fabric of any new or old kitchen design. There are some which are made using glass or stainless steel whilst others will include a wood surround in order that they fit perfectly within the design of the kitchen. It is essential that when choosing any type of kitchen hood that you keep your budget figure in mind. Rather you should find the one that not only suits the decor of your kitchen but also provides you with the most important function of being able to effectively remove unwanted smells, grease, smoke and steam from your kitchen whilst you are cooking.
